Recently, I was asked to participate in an online conference called The New Leaf Conference. As part of the conference, I participated in a question and answer session about my new book, The Windows of Heaven. Here is the first half of the script of the Q&A I had with the moderator that will show you at least 5 things you didn’t know about science and the Bible.
1. Give us an overview: What is your book about?
It began with a question about the ascension of Christ. This caused me to search for an understanding of the terms heaven, earth, firmament, and the deep from Genesis chapter one, which is covered in Part I of the book. Ultimately, the subject of the book ends up addressing the questions of how we got here, and what is our purpose is. In the process, we prove out whether Genesis provides answers or not, and how those answers fit with scientific discoveries.
In the beginning of my book, I introduce the idea that throughout all time, there were three main books published by God:
- The Witness of the Stars. (The record in the constellations and star names passed down from antiquity.)
- The Bible.
- The Book of Nature (much has been discovered or read by science)
In The Windows of Heaven, the Bible and the Book of Nature are opened and read side by side with surprising parallels. The biblical terms heaven, earth, firmament, and deep take on new meaning as we see them in light of modern science.
For example, Genesis 1:1 describes the physical basis of all things in terms of the four fundamental entities discovered by science, namely:
- Space
- Time
- Matter
- Energy
Part II then applies the definitions from Part I in the larger body of the Scriptures, which allows us to resolve a phenomenon referred to as the “windows of heaven” or “heaven opened.” What I show is that this phenomenon corresponds to the scientific concept of a wormhole, an idea that was only known since the middle of the 20th century. This phenomenon occurs many places in the Bible and explains (as much as we can explain a miracle) the flood of Noah, the ascension of Jesus Christ, the incarceration of evil spirits, and the repositioning of the entire Earth within the universe.
After somewhat of a detour in Part II, Part III then steps back & says, “hey we covered the first four days in Genesis 1, we might as well finish the others.”
The other days cover the formation and creation of living things. In the study of living organisms, the tools of science have proven to be very effective in exposing God’s handiwork. At the lowest level of living things, we find technology that far surpasses man’s. Nanoscale motors, pumps, computers, chemical barcode readers, and copying mechanisms operate all the time with incredible reliability. The technology employed at the level of cells blows away man’s technology, and yet there are two more levels of life beyond this discussed in Genesis chapter 1.
2.What relevance do you think this book has in our times and what was your purpose in writing it?
It addresses the doubt that is poured out into the world. We believe many others parts of the Bible; the things Jesus said and the various prophets, but Genesis chapter one sits at the foundation of it all, and yet most think it’s a myth. Is the whole foundation of the Scriptures shaky or not?
If you want to live a miraculous life, you don’t have to disbelieve God to be made ineffective. All it takes is doubt, and yet our education system pours doubt into the minds of our young people. I believe there is a tremendous hunger to know the truth. I can certainly speak from my own experience.
In the physical laws of our world, we see a tremendous precision and order. If the same God who created this existence is also responsible for the Bible, then shouldn’t we expect the words of his prophets to have same precision? This work attempts to show some of this precision. Even if a person does not follow the arguments of this book, it should still leave them with the impression that there is much more going on than they knew about, and hopefully, it will reignite their hunger for truth.
Another pattern I discuss is how we should expect a convergence of the things we learn about physical laws and words revealed from God. We should expect a convergence between the discoveries of science and the Bible. However, we must put aside indoctrination that comes from both Christian religion and from science education to appreciate the convergence.
